A Love Letter To My Mother
The idea for this photobook stemmed from a group conversation about the portrayal of mothers/stepmothers and their relationship with their daughters in fairytales. In fairytales the birth mother usually dies from childbirth and is left with an 'evil stepmother' who is either jealous of the daughter's looks or vying for attention to the husband/father. In today's media we have seen a shift from the typical fairytale way of depicting mothers and their daughters. But I still felt like the connection between mother-daughter weren't accurate, limiting the perspective on the complex relationship and how each daughter's relationship to their mother varies.
This photobook depicts each relationship my mother has to each of her daughters. It starts out portraying who my mother is and then each relationship she has with her three daughters and two female dogs. The book is here to add another perspective into motherhood and the complex relationship mothers and daughters have throughout their life.
